Apples of orange

It starts again in August and September. Harvesting the new Dutch apples. A moment we're always looking forward to. Our grower Dirk de Jong can deliver the most fresh and most delicious apples and pears. A new harvest of this Dutch handfruit, we are happy with that at van Gelder.

They come in fresh every day from our grower Dirk de Jong from Leerbroek. He grows the traditional varieties of apples and pears near the village that has only 1600 inhabitants. Its tree fields are located on the border of South Holland and Gelderland and are harvested by hand. "They are harvested, checked and sorted by hand," says De Jong. The apples are washed and then also packed by hand. "This prevents dents and it is also an optical check,"explains the co-owner of the cultivation company.

"Traditional and primal Dutch, as is the apple itself," says De Jong. "In this way we grow Elstar, Jonagold, Braeburn and Golden Delicious apples."
