Dutch strawberries: nature’s bonbon
North Brabant is the cradle of the Dutch strawberry. So it's no surprise that our strawberry grower is located in the Brabant town of Made. Beekers Berries grows Dutch strawberries here on the region’s sandy soils. Strawberries thrive particularly well in this type of soil, which is why the tastiest Dutch strawberries have been coming from North Brabant since the Middle Ages.
"Respect for nature is central to our cultivation concept," says Wil Beekers. "The bees from the local beekeeper are therefore welcome guests, as are the bumblebees. They ensure pollination and fertilization, allowing all this wonderfully soft fruit to develop into delicious berries. Unfortunately, not all insects are friends of our fruits. To prevent these pests from causing damage, they are largely controlled using biological methods by introducing natural predators."
Beekers Berries grows both Elsanta and Sonata strawberries, and during the season, the delicious Lambada strawberry is also available. This way, we have fresh Dutch strawberries available all year round.
